Maiden’s Cove and Glen Beach reopen to the public

Maiden’s Cove and Glen Beach are open to the public as of yesterday, Tuesday 3 August.

The two beaches were temporarily closed on Friday 30 July 2021 after a collapsed collector sewer caused an overflow onto the beach.

The overflow was stopped the very same day at 16:50. The repair of the collapsed sewer line has started and will be complete within two weeks, if all goes as planned.

The City Health Department conducted an assessment of Maidens Cove Beach and Glen Beach yesterday, Tuesday 3 August, and advised that the beaches can reopen to the public.

When the incident occurred, various City departments were activated to respond. This includes taking samples to confirm if there is any risk to the public. Warning signage was also erected.

A suction tanker was commissioned to relieve the overflow and contain the spillage in preparation for the maintenance team to do the repairs.
